Most migraine patients have physical, sexual and emotional abuse and emotional and physical neglect stories from their childhoods. Abuse and neglect commonly occur together.
Migraine sufferers frequently have a history of emotional abuse and neglect. These patients have higher likelihood of experiencing emotional violence and/or neglect by life partners and/or managers.
Traumas cause
• Chronic stress response
• Sympathetic system dominance
• Immune system problems
• Leaky gut
• Low serotonin and dopamine levels
As a result, the likelihood of migraine headaches increases. Diseases such as, myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, anxiety, and high blood pressure, which are often associated with traumas; can cause migraine pain to become more frequent and severe.
If trauma and accompanying depression and anxiety are not treated with professional help or taken into account, it will not be possible to treat/cure the migraine pain. It is absolutely necessary to receive professional psychological/ psychiatric support for migraine and/or fibromyalgia patients.
I advise migraine patients with a trauma history to take yoga/meditation classes and to exercise regularly (while taking professional help). Yoga and exercise decreases sympathetic nerve dominance and increases heart rate variability, elevating serotonin and dopamin levels in the mean time.
